Dan trained the Nottingham Trent BUSA Climbing Team in 2007/2008. He gave us eight two-hour training sessions. He was a great instructor and varied training aids and climbs every session. I feel I have improved over the weeks & gained in confidence. The team are climbing much harder grades than when they started. As a whole everyone is really pleased that they now have the confidence and experience to attempted climbs that they would not have looked at before. The sessions were professional, well organised and friendly with good personal tailoring to the different needs of the group. The tuition on different techniques was absolutely fantastic and secondly, perhaps of lesser importance excellent value for money. I would just like to express my gratitude to you for the tuition. I achieved everything I wanted and much more. On a personal note Dan is a top guy with bags of enthusiasm, Excellent. THANKS DAN!

After a lazy winter, I was anticipating some rusty attempts at the gritstone outcrop which is Stanage. But I felt reassured by Dans high capability and inspired by his talent, which I had seen in the Nottingham climbing centre. The sometimes ominous dark grey rocks were brightened up by the sunshine and conveniently sheltered us from the wind. Things were going our way, as Dan taught me how to take out trad gear which I was a little unfamiliar with, but felt at ease with after our first climb and good instruction. With the confident climber ahead of me I felt more at ease with the climbs as the day went on, and began to really enjoy the moves and challenges of the routes that we took. They were all of a perfect standard to match my ability and get me back into the swing of things. Even though I did manage some of the most unelegant manouvers, it was irrelevant once I achieved my goal…the top! By the end of the day I was feeling pleased with my progress and had developed some good banter with my cheery instructor. Our following one on one trip took us to Burbage valley where gear no longer backed us up and bouldering was the order of the day. The instruction and encouragement from Dan was outstanding and I was able to achieve many things that would have honestly been a nightmare without him. He was able to illustrate how to approach problems and get a feel for the type of climbing that was relatively new to me. Dan’s faith, encouragement, patience and skills have allowed me to gain so much from the experiences. I feel a more confident climber with some really memorable days with a great guy. I would highly recommend Dan as an instructor and a fellow lover of life.

Just a quick email to say thanks for the introduction to trad climbing course in the peaks that you did for me over the half term week. It was a fantastic introduction to the peaks and I would certainly recommend it to anyone The flying butress at Stannage blew me away, even though the moves were quite simple it was the best route I have ever climbed! The file and the boulders at the plantation were also places I’d like to come back to, the pebble arete and green traverse will have to wait until then.
